Session Goals:
Coaching in an educational setting comes in a variety of forms and structures but there are essentials that create meaningful and effective coaching experiences for all those involved. Whether you are new to coaching or have experience, this session is an opportunity to take time to explore and reflect on important aspects of coaching and consider next steps in growing professionally.
Session Outcomes:
- Explore and discuss different aspects of coaching in an educational setting including purpose, mindset, relationships, communication and collaboration.
- Add resources and strategies to their coaching toolkit -build their PLN (professional learning network) with recommended and shared connections
Presenter Bio:
Diana is an international educator with over 20 years experience as a teacher, mentor and coach in the United States, Japan, China and Qatar. Her participation in the the COETAIL (Certificate of Educational Technology and Information Literacy) program sparked a new, excited interest in the impact of technology on education which led to new opportunities for her in professional sharing and support at her schools and beyond. In addition to her role as an innovation/tech coach at American International School of Guangzhou, she is facilitator and mentor for The Coach microcredential at Eduro Learning. Although her main professional focus is facilitating the learning and growth of students and educators, Diana is a self-professed lifelong learner and appreciates any opportunity to enhance her own understanding and experience.

AMANDA BAUMANN - Nanjing International School

Session Goals:
When classes sing together, they build community, strengthen literacy, and open up avenues for creativity. Teachers, even self-identified nonmusicians, can take a few simple steps to grow a rich and rewarding culture of daily singing in their classes.
Session Outcomes:
We will review lower-tech and higher-tech options for teaching new songs, fitting singing into the day, and involving students in your practice. Teachers will leave the workshop equipped with the attitudes and structures needed to go back to their classes and start singing on Monday.
Presenter Bio:
Amanda Baumann has taught “the class that sings” (grades three through five, mostly) in the U.S., Thailand, Mexico, India, and China.

JAVIER BAHILO - Nanjing International School

Session Goals:
Participants will learn the different TEDx events that can be organized. They will also reflect on how the organization of such an event can enhance their school mission and vision.
Session Outcomes:
- Discuss what type of TEDx event suits their school best.
- Unpack and start the application process.
- Create a network among participants which can provide them with support while preparing and organizing the event.
Presenter Bio:
Javier was born and raised in Valencia, Spain. After twenty years of teaching in his home country, now he teaches MYP/DP Spanish at Nanjing International School. His passion to be inspired by people and new ideas led him to organize his first TEDxYouth event in Beijing two years ago. He also embraced the many ins and outs that such an event has as a team member in the TEDxYouth@NIS 2019 edition. Javier loves adventure. He considers himself a traveler, not a tourist. Javier enjoys any kind of artistic expression, hiking, swimming, reading graphic novels. His Spanish paellas are phenomenal!

Learn how to boost student engagement in learning using simple, quick and fun movement activities that can be easily be scaled to any age group, physical ability and learning environment.
Session Outcomes:
- Participants will learn by doing in this fun and creative movement based workshop based on actual research.
- A PDF of all activities, useful websites and research based readings will be emailed at the end of the session as well as my contact information for any future communication.
Presenter Bio:
Lee Mayes is a Primary PE Specialist at NIS working with kindy through G5 students. He is a strong advocate of inquiry and game-based learning and is on a mission to move the emphasis of PE from competition and ‘winning’, to a more fun, collaborative and outdoor play approach.
